Chilly start to the week

It's a bit chilly to start off our new work week, but 10 degrees above average still isn't bad for February! In fact, with the exception of Wednesday, every day this week will be either in the 50s or 60s in the afternoon!

An area of low pressure off to our southwest will bring more clouds for the evening and a chance for a few spotty showers overnight. We'll begin clearing early tomorrow morning just in time for a beautiful Valentine's Day.

A weak cold front dips in from the north Tuesday night into Wednesday, giving us a cool down for Wednesday, but we warm right back up Thursday into the weekend. The next couple of weeks are still trending above average on both temperature and precipitation. Wintry precipitation chances look iffy at this point, but there's a possibility by the end of the month. We do need any precipitation we can get, even in the form of rain.

If we don't get any more snowfall this season, 2016-17 would be the second least snowiest year on record in St. Louis, behind the 1953-54 season when we only received half an inch of snow.

Last year we fell about 6" below average on snowfall, but still ended up with about 11" of snow. So far since January 1, we've only had 1.52" of liquid (rain and melted snow combined) and 3.36" is average by this date. The upper level pattern is conducive to more precipitation in the coming weeks, it just looks like it will likely be too warm for snow.

If you're a fan of the warmer weather, then I think you'll love the weekend ahead. It's never too early to be thinking about the weekend, right? Mardi Gras events kick off this weekend in Soulard, with the Run For Your Beads 5k on Saturday morning, then the Beggin' Pet Parade on Sunday afternoon. As of now, things look dry and VERY mild both days.
