   WHO AM I

Welcome to my weather blog! I'm starting this page to give you a more in-depth explanation of our wild weather across the bi-state, and share what's going on in the community around us.

I've always had an interest in weather, even as a child. As kid growing up in rural central Illinois, I was terrified of thunderstorms; to the point where a radio announcer could say the word "wind" in the forecast and I would start emptying the closet so we could shelter from the storm. As I grew older, that fear grew into curiosity and passion for mother nature's twists and turns we've all gotten used to here in the Midwest.

I completed a Bachelor of Science in meteorology at Northern Illinois University in 2012, where I got my fair share of spring time severe weather and bitterly cold and snowy winters. While in school, I was able to storm chase with nearby College of DuPage and completed an internship at the National Weather Service in Lincoln, Illinois. I also had the opportunity to forecast for the university as an intern under the NIU staff meteorologist.

After graduation, I decided give television a try and interned under former KSDK meteorologist Ric Kearbey, who showed me the ropes at the green screen at WICS Newschannel 20 in Springfield, IL.

From there, I took my first job as a weekend meteorologist and reporter at the CBS affiliate in Jefferson City, Missouri. I wore several hats at that first job, and it gave me invaluable experience in many roles. After a year and a half in the state capital, I moved on to the ABC affiliate in Columbia, MO, where I was able to expand my weather experience forecasting 5 days a week and also serve as a manager of our digital platforms.

While in Columbia, I earned the Certified Broadcast Meteorologist seal from the American Meteorological Society in 2015.

It's always been my goal to live and work and St. Louis, and that dream came true when I started working at KSDK Newschannel 5. It is an honor to be working at St. Louis' first TV station with people who are truly invested in the community. I look forward to many more years of bringing you the weather for Missouri and Illinois and keeping you informed when mother nature turns sour!

I am a runner and love spending time outside with my miniature pinscher, Okie, so I would love your park recommendations! I'm also always looking for the best local places to eat around St. Louis, so feel free to send me an email with your favorite places!
