Unprecedented warmth

What an incredibly warm couple of weeks we have had! I feel awful for the snow lovers; it doesn't look like we'll see much of anything through the next 10 days or so, but the end of the month looks a bit cooler.

After we hit 71 yesterday with 70s expected through the weekend, Scott Connell dug through the climate records to find the top 5 warmest Februarys. If we average all the highs and lows with the forecast for the next 7 days, that will already put us at the warmest February on record in St. Louis. Temperatures the last week of the month will probably be cooler, but still close to or above average.

There will be a few chances of rain in the next 7 days, but the fire danger continues today with dry air, warm temperatures, gusty winds, and dry soil/grass.

Much of our viewing area west of the Mississippi is now in a moderate drought due to the lack of precipitation we've had around here lately. St. Louis has only had 1.4" of snow, and 1.84" of total precipitation since January 1st, which is a combination of rain and snow. Average precipitation is typically at 3.68" by now.

The next 7 days will continue to be WELL above average with a few chances of rain, starting on Monday. Enjoy the unusually warm weekend with Mardi Gras events beginning in Soulard! The MO Lottery Run for Your Beads starts at 9AM and temperatures at race time will be in the mid-50s. The Beggin' Pet Parade looks picture perfect on Sunday with high temperatures in the 70s. Make sure to share your photos with me, you might see them on TV over the weekend! The best way to do that is on my Facebook page or tweet me. Happy Friday!
