Heat subsides, dry weather continues

After more than a week of extreme heat, we're finally getting a break heading into this weekend. A cold front that swept south on Thursday continues to push south as high pressure dominates over the Great Lakes, sending us a nice northeast breeze through the weekend. We'll round out the end of the month below average, after an extremely warm stretch of weather the past several weeks.

In the upper levels, the jet stream stays locked in a northerly flow over the bi-state, sending cooler mid and low level temperatures our way. The drier air mass really kicks in on Saturday, with dew points well below the oppressive category this weekend. Dew points will be in the 50s both Saturday and Sunday, making for a gorgeous weekend with highs in the low to mid-80s.

Next week we stay fairly quiet with temperatures at or below average. Not much in the way of rain is expected, although we do need it around the region. Much of the bi-state is abnormally dry; and since the beginning of meteorological summer in June, we're about 3.78" below average for rainfall despite the nice dose on Thursday.
